Human Race Events has announced a brand new event taking place in summer 2015. The Human Race Naked Triathlon will debut on Saturday 4 July and is expected to be the ‘biggest gathering of naked people in British history’. Those aged 18+ will don their birthday suits to take on a 500m swim, a saddle-sore inducing 16k cycle, with a 5k run to finish.
All of the events will take place at Dorney Lake, home of many of Human Race’s other events. If the winner of any event is caught wearing shoes, underwear or clothing of any type, they are expected to be ‘stripped’ off their title.
Speaking at the announcement of the Human Race Naked Triathlon, CEO Nick Rusling said “We have been involved in mass participation events for 25 years and they have evolved a lot over this time. We know that those buying the better, more expensive equipment have an unfair advantage, so this levels the playing field.”
Nick continued “We are always being asked by participants how they can improve their triathlon PB time, so this is the perfect solution, as transition times are expected to be severely reduced. Our main concern is about participants getting sunburn. When you expose areas of the body that are not used to direct sunlight the risk increases. We will be encouraging all taking part to put some cream on their white bits.”
Speaking about the event, triathlon official Richard Burvill said “The rules are quite strict regarding clothing worn, but we have made a special exception for this event. I would ask though that everyone taking part is careful with where they put their limbs when performing swimming strokes.”
Plenty of helmets will be on show, as cyclists will be asked to wear them as a safety measure. Anybody who completes a ‘winning streak’ of all three events will take home their weight in nuts thanks to a generous sponsor.
For those who want to bare all, organisers are running a 24 hour flash sale on 1 April to encourage participants to enter early. Triathletes wishing to register can go to humanrace.co.uk.
