Having been unveiled as a major new event for the UK triathlon calendar next year, the Brighton and Hove Triathlon has been confirmed for Sunday 11 September 2016. This augural triathlon will run along the Brighton and Hove seafront; and with only 1,500 places available, it is expected to sell out very quickly.
Organised by the London 2012 Olympic Triathlon Competition Manager, John Lunt, the race will offer three distances:
- Super Sprint – ‘perfect for beginners’ (400m swim / 5K bike / 2.5K run)
- Sprint – ‘for a bit more of a challenge’ (750m / 20 km / 5km)
- Olympic – (1500m / 40K / 10K)
Entries are also available to enter as a relay where 2-3 people can take part.
Entries for the race will open on 26 September at 15:00 on the event website. Those who are pre-registered will receive a 1 week early bird entry period. The excitement around this first time race is expected to result in a sell out so the organizers are advising athletes to register quickly to reserve a place.
The Brighton and Hove Triathlon has also confirmed two of its official charity partners, Bloodwise and Breast Cancer Care.
Having recently rebranded from Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, Bloodwise is the UK’s biggest blood cancer charity. The charity makes patients’ lives better and aims to stop people getting blood cancer through extensive research.
Commenting on the announcement of the charity partnership, Event Director John Lunt said “Organising events is in my blood and it’s great to be back working with Bloodwise again. They have an amazing passion for sport and triathlon and they do some incredible work supporting people with blood cancers. It’s a really important charity to support.”
Matt Lawley, Head of Sports Events at Bloodwise, said “Bloodwise have long been associated with prestigious and successful sports events including cycling, triathlons runs and walks. We are delighted to be partnering with the Brighton and Hove triathlon and are looking forward to working with John and his team to offer even more fantastic opportunities for our supporters to get involved in and help us in our mission to beat blood cancer.”
Claire Pulford, Head of Events at Breast Cancer Care added, “We are really excited to be involved with the Brighton and Hove Triathlon, which promises to be an exceptional event in an iconic setting. Everyone who chooses to race as part of the Breast Cancer Care team will be raising awareness and funds so that we can provide care, support and information from day one for anyone affected by breast cancer.”
Lunt said, “Having Breast Cancer Care as an official charity is a great honour. I look forward working closely with them to fund raise and so combat this terrible disease.”
