The Saucony Cambridge Half Marathon sold out rapidly on the morning of Thursday 22 October, just over an hour after it opened for general entry. The new, increased capacity of 7000 runners instead of 4500, was snapped up in record time.
Following the sale of main registered places, entries were only available via the official charity, Cancer Research UK. This morning, it has been confirmed that these places have also sold out. The organizing team has confirmed that, within 24 hours, all VIP, general entry & charity places are now sold and the event has hit capacity!
The event in the English university city is organised by One Step Beyond, and will take place on Sunday 28 February 2016. It sees participants take on a new one-lap 13.1 mile course. The Half Marathon was reintroduced in 2012 after a 20-year break and has been extremely popular, especially with local runners. The entry process gives priority to local residents, who account for around 80% of all entrants.
The event will continue to support Cancer Research UK and will be looking to build on the success of the previous four years, which have seen the event’s participants raise over £500,000 for the charity. Cancer Research UK has confirmed that all money raised from the event will be ring fenced for research being carried out in the county of Cambridgeshire.
Will Savage from CRUK said “It is by working with fantastic events, such as this, that we can fund our lifesaving research. At the Cambridge Half Marathon we hope to raise over £150,000, which will go directly into funding research in the Cambridge area, where last year we spent £42 million.
“Cancer Research UK’s pioneering work into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer has helped save millions of lives. Today, two in four people survive cancer, but our ambition is to accelerate progress to three in four people in the next 20 years.”
The Saucony Cambridge Half Marathon also benefits from investment and support from partners including Cambridge Property Lettings, The Sports Injury Clinic, Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge Consultants, GLL and Gonville Hotel. Nutrition providers include Erdinger Alkoholfrei and High5.
