Following the recent confirmation of Abbott joining the 2015 BMW Berlin-Marathon as an official sponsor and official healthcare partner, the organizing team at SCC Events have confirmed a number of new partnerships to enhance the event.

As the 42nd edition of the BMW Berlin-Marathon edges closer to its start date of 27 September 2015, the event is also welcoming the Swiss luxury watch brand TAG Heuer as the new official timing partner. Two additional partners are also on board: Taiwan Excellence, which is positioned as the seal of quality for award winning products from Taiwan; and Strava the community of athletes from all over the world.

As part of its new strategy, the Swiss luxury watch brand TAG Heuer is entering sports marathons as event partner and official timekeeper. TAG Heuer is positioned the brand as being back to its origins: ‘sports watches and chronographs as well as meeting new challenges and the desire to constantly push its limits.’ The event sponsorship is also seen as a perfect link to the current advertising slogan #DontCrackUnderPressure.

A recognized name of innovation with added value, Taiwan Excellence is the highest accolade awarded to products that ‘encapsulate innovalue’. The Taiwan Excellence Selection was launched in 1993. Taiwan Excellence winners not only represent ‘the most revolutionary, highest quality, highest value added products made by Taiwan, but also epitomize Taiwan’s unique genius in using innovation to create added value in the design and manufacturing of leading-edge products.’

Strava aims to unlock the potential of a global community of athletes. Strava’s mobile apps and website connect, motivate and inspire runners throughout their experience, from exploration and adventure to training and competition. Strava allows athletes to track all runs, set personal records and compare efforts to those of friends.

For the BMW Berlin-Marathon, Strava is hosting a specific race page, allowing athletes to connect while training towards their shared goal

A group of runners from one of Germany’s most prestigious athletics clubs, SC Charlottenburg, organized the first Berlin-Marathon in 1974. It was not until 1981 that the race moved from the Grunewald (a big forest area) into the city centre of West Berlin.

It was after the Berlin Wall collapsed in November 1989 when a new era started. On 30 September 1990, three days before reunification, the course of the Berlin-Marathon led through Brandenburg Gate and both parts of Berlin.

The BMW Berlin-Marathon has since developed into one of the world’s best quality road races and as an inherent part of the Abbott World Marathon Majors. Last year’s 2:02:57 by the Kenyan Dennis Kimetto was the tenth world record on a course which makes full use of Berlin’s flat terrain and gentle corners.
