Thanyapura Phuket in Thailand is continuing to reaffirm its credentials as a top sports destination in Asia with the hiring of Alexandra Lochmatter as its new Director of Sports.
Lochmatter, who will be responsible for running and administrating Thanyapura’s extensive sports facilities, was headhunted by four-time triathlon World Champion Chris McCormack (Thanyapura Phuket’s Executive Chairman) following her success as Group and Events Manager at the renowned Playitas Resort – a leading fitness and sports destination in Spain.
The sports savvy professional helped to lead Playitas to its success, and her job at Thanyapura will include building on those successes – with the aim of making Thanyapura the Sports Hub for Southeast Asia.
Lochmatter said “I am delighted to be joining the Thanyapura team. My experience at Playitas will help me here in Phuket, as I already know the activities and work they do here well. I am excited to help our guests along the way, whether they are elite athletes, beginners looking for active holidays or active families who want to combine their holidays with sports activities.
“I am very much looking forward to leading the sports programmes and to developing Thanyapura as the major sports hub in Asia.”
Prior to joining the Playitas Resort, Lochmatter worked in a number of posts in the travel and leisure industry and she also has a strong marketing and sales background. She has a Bachelors Degree in Tourism and is fluent in several European languages.
Thanyapura President and Chief Executive Officer, Philipp Graf von Hardenberg, said “We keep going from strength to strength here at Thanyapura, and we are very pleased we have Alexandra joining us, who is very experienced and professional in this field.
“Alexandra will bring a new level of energy and expertise that will help to benefit Thanyapura. She will help us reach our goals and assist guests and sportspeople from all walks of life.”
Thanyapura Phuket is a 23-hectare luxury sports, health and lifestyle resort in Phuket, Thailand. Set amid the tropical rainforests and mountains of a national park, it is just 15 minutes from some of the best beaches on the island and Phuket International Airport.
The resort has two world-class luxury hotels – the 77-room Pool Wing and a more tranquil, 38-room boutique Garden Wing.
Guests have two restaurants to choose from. The DiVine Restaurant and Cellar, which serves healthy food using regionally-grown organic food, and the built-for socializing Booster Deli and Bar famous for its smoothies. These are both an integral part of the sporting and health facilities in Southeast Asia, which include three swimming pools, six tennis courts, a football/rugby field, cushioned running tracks, two performance gyms and fitness studios.
