Leading tourism body, Welcome to Yorkshire – known for its successful hosting of the Tour de France Grand Départ in 2014 and now the new Tour de Yorkshire this spring – has lent its support to the Castle Howard Triathlon (25-26 July 2015) in North Yorkshire.
The new partnership will see joint activity between the Castle Triathlon Series, a leading triathlon organiser in the UK and Europe, and Welcome to Yorkshire, ‘to benefit competitors and spectators alike and encourage more visitors to Yorkshire.’
The triathlon festival offers a full programme of entertainment alongside the race action, including: a live music stage, climbing wall, archery, children’s entertainment and a food & retail area. Camping in the stunning grounds of the estate is also very popular with hundreds choosing to stay for the weekend last year.
The Castle Howard Triathlon expects 3,000 competitors in 2015 plus 6,000 spectators, which, according to the organisers, will equate to £2.5 million plus for the local economy with 64% of competitors coming from outside of Yorkshire.
Gary Verity, Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, explained, “We are in the business of driving visitors from all walks to Yorkshire, so we’re delighted to be supporting the Castle Howard Triathlon. It’s a wonderful setting for an event of this kind, and we hope to see the triathlon become one of the largest in the UK.”
The Castle Howard Triathlon is set in the outskirts of York and is the third leg in the Castle Triathlon Series. The triathlon festival welcomes triathletes of all levels – from children and first timers to elite athletes with 2,000 competitors crossing the finishing line in 2014.
There are five different distances for adults including the launch of a new starter sprint distance this year providing the opportunity for newbies to the sport to give it a ‘tri’. The event in its sixth year has grown from a one-day event to a weekend of racing.
