Xtra Mile Events is seeking an Events Operations Manager to help grow and develop all events within the company’s wide portfolio, which includes the multi award winning ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon.
The Xtra Mile Events office is currently in Hale, South Manchester. The Events Operations Manager role is full-time and office based. It will require attendance at all events, which are currently located across North Wales, the North West, the Peak District and West Yorkshire. Events are held at weekends; and Saturday & Sunday availability on event weekends is essential.

In summary, the Operations Manager will take on the planning, co-ordinating and delivering of events. He or she will also manage an Event Support Team. Main responsibilities of the job and key duties include:

With the Operations Director, Marketing Manager & the Operations Team – the Operations Manager should ensure the successful delivery of events. Alongside close liaison with race day Event Crew and Event Marshals, and with all event stakeholders the Operations Manager should ensure a smooth, efficient and safe event is executed.
Skills and abilities required for the role:
- To be able to plan and organise events to a high standard and on budget
- The ability to analyse problems and identify possible solutions
- Project management skills (training will be provided on the company’s PM system)
- Ability to inspire, motivate and manage teams to work enthusiastically and effectively
- To be able to follow and communicate instructions and to use own initiative where relevant
- Able to communicate clearly, accurately and concisely both verbally and in writing
- To be able to plan and organise work to meet schedules and timelines
- Able to work to a budget and be aware of budgetary constraints
- Interact courteously and effectively with the public and be able to do so when faced with difficult people or situations
- Diplomacy: the successful candidate should be self-confident, adaptable, results orientated – with a strong focus on quality and customer service
- Experience of events management is essential
- A relevant qualification would be an advantage
- Computer literate with ability to use Microsoft Office
- Full, clean driving licence and preferably a car owner with ability to drive a van
- A passion for sport, and an energetic, good humoured personality
Relevant experience for the role:
- 2 + years’ experience of organising large scale sports events
- Proven ability to work with efficiency, flexibility and good humour
- A team player who is resourceful with an ability to work using own initiative
- Clear, efficient and effective decision making skills
- Willing to work some weekends & unsociable hours, including staying away from home
Qualifications:
- To degree level (or equivalent) – preferably in a relevant subject
- Any other additional relevant qualifications would be an advantage
Salary:
- £28k – £35k per annum
