Why do runners run? For many it is about keeping lean, being fit and having an opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors. Well, with a newly launched run series in the UK there’s another factor to add to that list – hot chocolate.
The Hot Chocolate Run Series launches in the UK this January – an event in which all finishers will be rewarded with hot chocolate at the end of their race.
Previously known as the Windsor & Eton Winter Run Series, the newly Hot Chocolate branded events take on a new, fun identity for the 2015 season, in which competitors are invited to enjoy a hot chocolate at the finish. From marshmallows and chocolate sprinkles to cream and chopped nuts – the organisers note that every taste bud will be well catered for.
Each event in the series takes place at Dorney Lake in Windsor, on a fast and flat course in which competitors will be able to take part in a range of distances ranging from 5K right up to the half marathon distance.
The event organisers are also offering 15% off all race entries until 21:00 GMT on Sunday 18 January, in celebration of the new series and to encourage more runners to give chocolate a go!
The events run on the following dates:
- Race 1: Sunday 18 January 2015
- Race 2: Saturday 21 February 2015
- Hot Chocolate Half Marathon: Saturday 21 March 2015
- Race 3: Sunday 22 March 2015
- Race 4: Saturday 18 April 2015
Martyn Edwards, Race Director of the Hot Chocolate Run Series is excited about the launch and said, “The goal of the Hot Chocolate Series is simple: it is not just about running and crossing the finish line, it is to be a unique experience for those taking part, one in which they can enjoy with everyone else around them.”
He continued, “If you have never walked, jogged or run 5K or 10K before then you are in the 80% of expected participants that also have not. There will be distances for everyone, and we expect to see a whole host of entrants – from those embarking on their first ever event, to those taking part competitively. Some will want to race to the finish and most will be happy to wrap up warm and enjoy the venue and being in the cold great outdoors in readiness for some much needed hot chocolate at the end.’
Entries are now open, and the 15% discount code is valid until 21:00 on Sunday 18 January (the evening of Race 1). To obtain the discount, runners can enter RUNFORCHOC when requested at checkout.
