BikeFlights.com will donate US$5,000 to the Amy D Foundation and the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA) through its Buck Up for Bikes program launched earlier in 2016. Each organization will be presented with US$2,500 during Interbike or at CrossVegas in Las Vegas, Nevada, this week.
“BikeFlights.com is all about cyclists helping cyclists, and the Buck Up for Bikes program is one of the many ways we do that,” said BikeFlights.com Owner William Alcorn. “It’s important to give back to the sport we love, especially by helping the next generation of riders and racers as they get excited about riding and racing their bikes.”
With these donations, BikeFlights.com exceeded its initial goals – set at the program’s inception – of raising a minimum of US$1,000 for both organizations.
With the Buck Up for Bikes program, BikeFlights.com customers have the option to contribute US$1 to NICA or the Amy D Foundation when they book their bike shipping online at BikeFlights.com, a bicycle shipping service for cyclists. BikeFlights.com collects and tracks all donations and covers costs of administering and publicizing the program.
A presentation ceremony for the Amy D. Foundation will be held during the Wheelers & Dealers race at the CrossVegas UCI Cyclocross World Cup on Wednesday evening (21 September). BikeFlights.com has been a supporter of the Amy D. Foundation since its inception and is also an event partner of CrossVegas.
“It’s been wonderful to work with the folks at BikeFlights.com,” said Amy D. Foundation President, Dan Dombroski. “It is quite enabling for us to know that we have a safe, reliable and affordable way to send bikes anywhere they need to go for our programming. But the relationship between BikeFlights.com and the Amy D. Foundation has grown into something much bigger than that.
“They have actively followed our development as an organization and are always engaged in exploring new ways they can help support our goal of building participation, opportunity and equality for women in the sport of cycling. The Buck Up for Bikes program is a fantastic fundraising and awareness-building mechanism within the community.”
NICA will receive its US$2,500 during a presentation at the BikeFlights.com booth (#9058) at Interbike on Thursday 22 September at 11:15 PT. NICA and BikeFlights.com began their partnership this season.
Austin McInerny, NICA’s executive director, said, “I am grateful and proud of the way cyclists have come forward, from leaders like BikeFlights.com to casual riders, to support today’s youth and the future of cycling in the USA. Our ability to meet the growing demand for interscholastic cycling will be met in years to come by creative programs like Buck Up for Bikes. Simply put, this is about cyclists supporting the growth of the sport in America.”
