Destination upstate New York: HITS Hudson Valley Triathlon at Williams Lake

HITS Triathlon Series athletes

HITS Endurance has partnered with Hudson Valley Resorts to take its national triathlon series to the ‘beautiful Williams Lake property’ in upstate New York. This event will be added to the HITS Triathlon Series’ race calendar, as HITS Triathlon Series – Hudson Valley at Williams Lake, and will take place on 9 July 2016 in Rosendale, New York. The new destination replaces the previous Kingston, New York, venue.

Athletes will have the opportunity to race five different distances, including the Open, Sprint, Olympic, Half and Full. The HITS Hudson Valley at Williams Lake course features an athlete-friendly swim in the spring-fed Williams Lake, a bike around the Ashokan Reservoir, and a run through the heart of Ulster County on the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail.

“We are looking forward to introducing HITS Hudson Valley to both locals and athletes in the metro-New York region. We have incorporated five distances so the race will accommodate and challenge athletes of all levels,” said HITS Endurance president and CEO Tom Struzzieri.

Hudson River Valley Resorts is the owner of the Williams Lake property, which is under development as a sustainable resort community. Although the resort will not be open on race day, athletes can expect ‘family-friendly activities, a scenic town, and a warm welcome from local businesses’.

“We are thrilled to add the HITS Hudson Valley triathlon to our event schedule and look forward to a long-term partnership with HITS Endurance,” said Tim Allred, Vice-President and Event Manager for Hudson River Valley Resorts. “The HITS triathlon is in keeping with the future of the resort as a destination for outdoor recreation.”

The community of Rosendale welcomes athletes and spectators, who are encouraged to make a weekend of the race and explore all that the region has to offer. Rosendale and the surrounding community is a h’otbed of arts, culture, fine dining and more and is minutes away from the New York thruway, enabling a quick, weekend getaway from New York City and the tri-state area.’

To welcome athletes and spectators, Rosendale restaurants and businesses plan to offer a variety of promotions to athletes and their families. Event partners offering lodging accommodations can be found at http://hitstriathlonseries.com/hudson-valley-lodging.

The HITS triathlon is one of many community events at Williams Lake in 2016 and is made possible with the support of ‘countless volunteers, as well as emergency medical and law enforcement personnel.’ Registration for HITS Hudson Valley is now open online.

Other events at Williams Lake in 2016 include two mountain bike races, including the Williams Lake Classic on 29 May, and several trail runs, including the inaugural Lime Kiln race, which offers a half-marathon, 10K and 5K races through the rugged woods and caves at Williams Lake.

The Lime Kiln race will be held the weekend of 6-7 August and includes camping, swimming and music.
