Boston-based ENERGYbits has won a coveted spot in Pitchfest, a start-up competition for women-led sports companies that is sponsored by the Outdoor Industries Women’s Coalition (OIWC) and funded by outdoor sports giant REI.
As one of the Pitchfest winners, ENERGYbits Founder/CEO Catharine Arnston will give a short presentation on 2 August in Salt Lake City, Utah.
OIWC holds an annual Pitchfest competition for women-led start-ups whose business focus is the outdoors. The most promising companies are selected as winners and invited to Salt Lake City to ‘pitch’ their company to a panel of investors and outdoor sports VIPs.
The event is free, open to the media/public and held one day prior to the Outdoor Retailer Show, where ENERGYbits is an exhibitor (Booth# PV1014).
The Pitchfest award for algae-based endurance nutrition brand ENERGYbits marks the third start-up competition that ENERGYbits has won in the last six months and helps to illustrate the rapid growth and interest in algae and the company.
ENERGYbits algae tablets help sports enthusiasts, athletes and health conscious consumers ‘achieve peak performance using plant-based nutrition, all without caffeine, chemicals or sugar.’ Algae is recognized by NASA and the United Nations as one the most nutritionally dense foods in the world and is a multi-billion dollar industry in Asia where it has been sold for 50 years.
Algae was virtually unknown in the USA until six years ago when ENERGYbits launched its national brand and ‘made algae easy to take and easy to understand’.
Catharine Arnston, Founder/CEO explained,”ENERGYbits are 100% spirulina, an algae that provides energy, endurance, strength and focus. RECOVERYbits are 100% chlorella, an algae that supports muscle repair, athletic recovery, immune support and anti-aging.
“Our algae tabs are plant-based ‘bits of food’ that have just one ingredient and one calorie but contain more protein than steak, more antioxidants than cherries, more iron than spinach, more beta carotene than carrots, more calcium than milk and contain over forty vitamins/minerals nitric oxide and Omega-3.”
ENERGYbits is a 6-year-old, privately held sports nutrition company based in Boston, Massachussetts.
Produced by OIWC, a 20-year-old non-profit organization, the Pitchfest awards are dedicated to inspiring and driving innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship among women-led companies with a passion for the outdoors. The second Annual Pitchfest, is a public event held on 2 August in Salt Lake City, Utah where the ‘award winners showcase their businesses to some of the outdoor industry’s most influential CEOs, entrepreneurs, investors, and thought leaders.’
