The Legend and Snowman at Snowdonia Triathlon Festival in July 2016

Always Aim High - Snowman swim start

The weekend of the 30-31 July will see triathletes descend upon North Wales for the Snowdonia Triathlon Festival, which is organised by Always Aim High Events.

The festival, which was previously held in October and called the Snowman Triathlon, now incorporates much of that triathlon’s iconic routes and also includes an entirely new event: the Legend Half Triathlon.

Taking place at the Plas y Brenin National Mountain Centre, there are a number of events enticing UK triathletes to North Wales across the race weekend…

Saturday 30 July
The Legend Half Triathlon
The Legend Half is the opening event of the Snowdonia Triathlon Festival 2016. This is billed as a unique endurance triathlon experience. It offers a national park location, single lap routes, race support & organisation, and a few hills thrown in for good measure! The organising team at Always Aim High add, perhaps not that modestly, that ‘this is quite simply the most beautiful triathlon challenge on the planet.’

Distance: Swim: 1.2 miles; Cycle: 56 miles; Run: 13.1 miles

Snowdonia Triathlon Festival – Sprint & Mini Sprint
Also taking place on the Saturday are the Sprint and Mini Sprint distances of the Snowdonia Triathlon Festival. These shorter distances are positioned as a great entry point into the world of triathlon and include many of the same (only shorter) routes that make up the full distance.

Sprint: Swim: 400m; Cycle: 31 km; Run: 5 km
Mini-Sprint: Swim: 200m; Cycle: 10 km; Run: 2.5 km

Sunday 31 July
Snowdonia Triathlon Festival – Full Distance
The full distance of the Snowdonia Triathlon Festival starts with a swim in Llyn Mymbyr, with the horse-shoe of Mount Snowdon looking on. The triathlon then sets off on a 60km cycle, which takes in the climbs and views that make this part of the world so special. The triathlon ends with a trail run in the shadows of the Glyders and Tryfan.

Distance: Swim: 1000m; Cycle: 60 km; Run: 10 km

Also occurring across the weekend is the Snowdonia Triathlon Festival Savage. Here, entrants will complete the Sprint distance on Saturday and the Full on Sunday in a test of endurance and athleticism!
Distance: Swim: 1400m; Cycle: 91 km; Run: 15km

As well as all the weekend’s action, there’ll also be outdoor taster sessions hosted by Plas y Brenin across both days, live entertainment and local food and drink stalls.
