Ahead of the inaugural IRONMAN and IM 70.3 Weymouth races on 11 September, the organizing team has confirmed a new bike course for this latest addition to the M-Dot events calendar in the UK.
Starting and finishing from transition in the heart of Weymouth, the bike course will showcase the best of Dorset across either a 112 mile (IRONMAN) two lap route or a 56 mile (70.3) single lap. Incorporating some 3,200 ft of elevation, ‘it promises to provide both speed, hills and beauty across rolling countryside and charming villages.’
Commencing with a rolling swim start in Weymouth Bay, followed by a multi lap run around the town and seafront, the new venue also ‘offers outstanding spectator viewing for your friends and family to cheer you on.’
This the first time in Europe that both an IRONMAN and an IRONMAN 70.3 race will be held on the same day. The organisers add that both events offer some ‘exciting racing, showcasing some of the best Dorset has to offer in this stunning West Country county.’
There will be 30 qualifying slots to both the 2017 IRONMAN World Championship in Kailua Kona, Hawaii, and the 2017 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA. However there will only be a race for professional athletes at IRONMAN 70.3 Weymouth, competing for a total prize purse of US$15,000, with the race also offering P-500 KPR points.
For those athletes looking for a warm up race or alternative racing options, including the two Weymouth events, there are now six UK races open for entry: IRONMAN 70.3 Staffordshire, IRONMAN 70.3 UK, IRONMAN UK and IRONMAN Wales. Furthermore, IRONMAN 70.3 Dublin has also been confirmed for 14 August 2016..
