IRONMAN has today announced the addition of a new race in Korea with IRONMAN 70.3 Busan. The new IRONMAN 70.3 Busan replaces the IRONMAN 70.3 Incheon event, which has now been discontinued.
The inaugural IM 70.3 in Busan race will take place on Sunday 19 June 2016.
“With the sport of triathlon continuing to grow in Korea, we are pleased to add this new race to the calendar,” said Geoff Meyer, Managing Director for IRONMAN Asia. “After the success of last year’s races in Korea, we are confident that IRONMAN 70.3 Busan will provide our athletes an exceptional race experience.”
Busan, Korea’s second largest city after Seoul, is located on the south-eastern tip of the Korean peninsula. The IRONMAN 70.3 Busan course will offer athletes ‘a unique and unforgettable racing experience’. This starts with a one-loop swim at Haeundae Beach, followed by a two-loop bike over some of the region’s most beautiful coastal roads.
The two-loop run course takes place alongside the Jwagwang-Cheon River with athletes finishing at the World Cup Village, which was built to commemorate Korea’s hosting of the 17th FIFA World Cup.
“We are excited about launching IRONMAN 70.3 Busan,” said Event Director Park Byung Hoon. “The course is located in the bustling city of Busan with around 3.6 million residents, surrounded by mountains, rivers and the ocean, which will make it a fantastic event for participants.”
IRONMAN 70.3 Busan will offer a US$15,000 professional prize purse and 40 age group qualifying slots for the 2016 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia.
