Cycling power specialist Quarq notes that its Quarq Race Intelligence solution presents ‘a ground-breaking live telemetry system for endurance sports.’ Part of the SRAM family since 2011, Quarq adds that its Race Intelligence ‘ushers in a new era of spectating and engagement in cycling and triathlon.’
Quarq Race Intelligence and the accompanying hardware – the Qollector [col·lec·tor] – are rolling out in the US with Rev3, and will be available to age-groupers participating in any of Rev3’s triathlons in 2016, starting in Knoxville on 22 May 2016. Event participants can reserve directly on the Quarq website.
Qalvin update to enable Power Balance
A recent update to the Qalvin App on the desktop version for Windows and Mac has also enabled Power Balance on all Quarq RIKEN power meters. Qalvin for Windows and Mac requires an ANTUSB2 or ANTUSB-m stick.
Power Balance uses crankset torque to display the ratio of power generated in the right drive stroke (12 o’clock to 6 o’clock) versus the left drive stroke (6 o’clock to 12 o’clock) for each crank revolution. Power Balance is used to test asymmetry and is seen as a useful aid for injury recovery.

In May 2011, US power meter company Quarq Technology Inc became a member of the SRAM family, with groupset player SRAM confirming the acquisition of Quarq. Over the years years Quarq has become recognised as a leader and innovator in the design and manufacture of power meters, measurement devices and related accessories. The acquisition by SRAM was seen to ‘mark a milestone for both the SRAM and Quarq organisations’.
