Today, entries officially opened for the return of Red Bull Neptune Steps, as the widely anticipated open-water adventure race is set to return to Glasgow in April. Entries went live at 10:00 GMT via redbull.co.uk/neptunesteps. The majority of race slots were then sold out in only 10 minutes.
The return of one of the UK’s toughest open water swimming events will take place on Saturday 9 April 2016 in the water of the Forth & Clyde Canal at Maryhill Locks, Glasgow.
Today, male entries completely sold out in just 9 minutes, with all other entries selling out in less than 1 hour ‘following massive amounts of interest in the return of this elite swimming endurance race.’
Following the success of the inaugural Red Bull Neptune Steps in 2015, with 100 swimmers taking part in the unique race, the event was opened up to allow double the number of entries than the previous year.
The event launched last year as ‘the first ever fully supervised swimming event to take place in a Scottish canal featuring some of the toughest and most experienced swimmers brave enough to take on the challenging course and water temperatures.’ New for this year, the event will also feature an all-female competition.
Swimmers, triathletes and adventure racers alike have been patiently waiting on news of the return of Red Bull Neptune Steps to Glasgow’s Forth & Clyde Canal. Since announcing the event on Thursday 18 February, over 2,000 individuals pre-registered for more information on redbull.com. All swimmers interested in taking part were urged to sign up as soon as possible to guarantee entry.
