On Monday 5 December 2016, IRONMAN and the IRONMAN Foundation will host an ‘Evening of Champions and Inspiration’ at the IRONMAN World Championship Broadcast Premiere presented by UnitedHealthcare, taking place at The Times Center in New York City.
Mike Reilly, also known as ‘The Voice of IRONMAN’, will host the evening’s affair and ‘introduce guests to the magic of Kona and the IRONMAN World Championship’, which took place on 8 October 2016 in Kailua-Kona, Hawai’i.
The red-carpet gala will feature a screening of the annual NBC broadcast that captures the competition and compelling storylines of the IRONMAN World Championship. Event attendees will get a first look at the NBC broadcast special before it airs in the US on 10 December from 14:30 to 16:00 ET.
The red carpet event will also include food and cocktails and a meet-and-greet with inspirational age-group athletes as well as current and former professional athletes, including special guest and six-time IRONMAN World Champion Mark Allen. Following the screening, an athlete Q&A panel will be moderated by renowned sports commentator and long-time narrator of the NBC Show, Al Trautwig.
“This marks the fourth-straight year that we have previewed the IRONMAN World Championship NBC special in New York City. The broadcast, which celebrates its 35th anniversary, has always been an integral window into the ‘ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE’ mantra that makes IRONMAN so extraordinary,” said Christopher Stadler, Chief Marketing Officer for IRONMAN.
“Every year this event has grown bigger and we are excited to bring it to another level this year with proceeds benefiting The IRONMAN Foundation.”
The IRONMAN Foundation, which is the charitable arm of the IRONMAN organization, has provided more than US$46 million in support since inception. Proceeds from the evening will go to benefit the IRONMAN Foundation’s Community Fund, which provides grant funding to non-profit organizations in race communities where IRONMAN events are held.
In addition to the funds raised from the event’s ticket sales, the foundation will also auction off several items including this year’s IRONMAN World Championship finish line tapes as well as race packages with entries for the coveted 2017 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and the 2017 IRONMAN World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawai’i.
