Registration for the 2017 Slateman Triathlon powered by Suunto opens on Wednesday 6 July. As noted by race organising firm Always Aim High Events, the Slateman Triathlon in North Wales will return in 2017 ‘bigger and better than ever before, featuring some of the iconic cycle and run routes which make it one of the most memorable and must do triathlon events in the UK.’
Taking place on the weekend of 20-21 May 2017, the Slateman event takes place in and around the ‘spiritual home of the outdoors’ in Llanberis, North Wales.
The full distance triathlon, which takes place on the Sunday, features a 1000m swim in Lake Padarn. This is followed by a 51km cycle through the winding roads and climbs of Snowdonia National Park. Taking athletes through Ogwen and Pen y Pass under the watchful gaze of such iconic mountains as Tryfan, Moel Siabod, the Snowdon horseshoe amongst others, this cycle is regarded as ‘one of the finest in the world’.
The triathlon is rounded off with a 11km run through the abandoned quarries and trails that surround the twin lakes of Padarn and Peris.
Accompanying the full distance Slateman are two further distances for varying abilities. The Sprint distance takes place on the Saturday and is positioned as being perfect for beginners and experienced alike. Always Aim High adds that the Sprint event is tailored towards people new to the sport who want the legendary Slateman experience.
Last, but by no means least, is the Slateman Savage. Here, competitors will take on both the Sprint and Full distances of the Slateman across the race weekend.
The Slateman Triathlon 2017 is part of the Always Aim High Events Adventure Triathlon Series 2017 – which also includes the Snowdonia Triathlon Festival and Sandman Triathlon. Registration for the series opens alongside the Slateman on 6 July, with a discount when athletes register for all events in the series – as one of the events comes in at half price. Those who complete all events in the series get an exclusive series t-shirt.
