Solos smart cycling glasses open more eyes with Kickstarter campaign

Solos has announced the launch of its Kickstarter campaign to serve as a platform of awareness and new updates on the soon-to-be-released smart cycling glasses. Solos is billed as ‘the first and only Augmented Reality Sports Glasses developed with the USA Cycling team.’

With Solos now serving as a tool for the team’s training and insights, the smart eyewear company adds that Team USA cyclists will have an unparalleled edge entering the summer 2016 Olympics.

‘Solos takes the world’s smallest heads-up display and pairs it with best in class performance tracking, precision training tools, and a number of every day useful features.’

The Kickstarter campaign has already reached its US$50,000 funding goal through a number of pledge options. These include discounted orders on the Solos glasses saving on the US$500 MSRP.

The smart cycling glasses were engineered by MIT graduate, Dr Ernesto Martinez to provide a slim display projecting real-time data such as speed, cadence, heart rate, power zones, calories, distance and elevation. Additional features include maps and navigation, voice prompts and call capabilities. Solos also integrates with other training apps such as TrainingPeaks, Strava and MapMyRide.

The Vista Pupil optical module on Solos smart glasses is claimed to be the smallest in the world, providing real-time information in a safe and convenient manner for cyclists. It’s built into the lens of the glasses. The armature is adjustable depending on users’ facial structures.

The optical module casts a high-resolution near-eye stream of applications and offers a visual screen that is 4x larger than fixed displays.

Solos is already in production and is expected to ship to customers and backers in September 2016. Solos can also be seen this summer at the Rio Olympic Games on the USA Cycling team this August.
