UnitedHealthcare is teaming up with IRONKIDS for its second UnitedHealthcare IRONKIDS SUPERFROG Fun Run at Imperial Beach, California, aimed at inspiring and motivating young people to lead active and healthy lifestyles.
The one-and-a-half mile fun run will take place at 10:00 PT on Saturday 24 September, at Pier Plaza, where IRONMAN 70.3 SUPERFROG triathletes will run the next day. Onsite registration begins at 08:00, and each athlete will receive a race bib, t-shirt, goodie bag and finisher medal. The cost for registration is US$15 for children ages 3 to 15. Registration details are available at www.IRONKIDS.com
UnitedHealthcare is providing 50 complimentary admissions to the Boys & Girls Clubs of South County to encourage participation; and mascot Dr Health E. Hound will make a special appearance at the starting line to officially kick off the fun run. The South County Club is one of over 1,300 clubs across the country that provides services to kids whose parents are in the military.
“Healthy kids have the best chance at becoming healthy adults,” said Kevin Kandalaft of UnitedHealthcare. “We continue partnering with IRONMAN to provide an opportunity for families to begin their day being active, and to help children in our community live healthier lives.”
This is the fifth year UnitedHealthcare is supporting IRONKIDS in the United States as part of the company’s commitment to help stem the rising tide of childhood obesity through healthy lifestyles. UnitedHealthcare is sponsoring seven one-mile fun runs in 2016.
“The UnitedHealthcare IRONKIDS SUPERFROG Fun Run is a great way to introduce young athletes to the benefits of living an active lifestyle. This event allows the children to feel the thrill of competition in a safe, fun, family-friendly environment,” said Liz Kollar, Global Director of Athlete Development for IRONMAN.
IRONKIDS is owned by Ironman brand owner World Triathlon Corp (WTC). After being acquired from the Sara Lee Corporation, which owned the event series since 1985, IRONKIDS relaunched in 2009 with nine events in the IRONKIDS National Triathlon Series. Since the inaugural year, IRONKIDS has seen more than 60,000 participants and has grown to over 40 events worldwide including races in Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe and North America.
The brand represents a ‘multi-dimensional approach to creating positive experiences for athletes, families and communities as well as embodies achievement and determination while fostering self-esteem.’ The IRONKIDS mission is to inspire and motivate through the sport to live an active, positive and healthy lifestyle.
