Scheduled to take place last weekend, on Saturday 9 September, in Priest Lake, Idaho, the XTERRA Smokechaser Trail Run was forced to cancel. Due to poor air quality from local fires, the 5 mile and 30K XTERRA Smokechaser trail runs were cancelled; and all registrations will be transferred to next year’s race.
The area is prone to fires; and last week the organising team issued a statement ahead of the race cancellation…
Unfortunately due to fire weather out of our control, the race this year is cancelled. According to the NWS, the low pressure system coming in for Friday is not enough to effectively move smoke out of the area. The prediction is for continued poor air conditions… Air quality continues to be unhealthy.
Cancellation Policy: We understand you have worked hard to get ready for the race, we have also worked hard to get ready, and are greatly disappointed in not having an epic race day.
Weather cancellation is a non-refundable cancellation. As a standard, most events do not provide a fee return or a transfer to the following season. Unfortunately a number of races in our area have had to cancel this season, there were no refunds of race fees, and NO transfer to the following season.
Being athletes ourselves, we hope to provide a higher level of dedication to the sport we love.
WE WILL BE TRANSFERING ALL REGISTRATIONS TO NEXT SUMMERS RACE. RACE DATE -TBA in October.
If you are currently registered for the 09/09/2017 race, you will be automatically signed up in the registration system. You will get a confirmation email in October.

The XTERRA Smokechaser Trail Run 5 mile course is a mixed trail run starting on the beach of Priest Lake with sections of single track hiking trail and logging road with a view of Priest Lake toward the top.
The 30K course offers up a more challenging run. The first 4 miles and last 4 miles are ‘very runable dirt forest road’. Miles 4-6 and 14-16 are runnable but rocky and steeper. The middle 3 miles, while making the climb up to the tower and the next 3 miles back down offers up mixed, rugged technical trail.
