From hydrating athletes, to the last finisher – 66-year old Catherine Wilson from NSW, Australia – IRONMAN has released a series of images to capture the iconic World Championship in Kona, as athletes strived to reach the finish line on Ali’i Drive in Kona this past weekend.

Triathlon’s top long-distance professional talent convened in Kailua-Kona, Hawai’i ,on 14 October 2017 for the 41st edition of the IRONMAN World Championship, billed as ‘the most iconic one-day endurance event in the world’. The 2017 IRONMAN World Championship offered a US$650,000 total professional prize purse, distributed to male and female athletes from first through tenth place finishers.

In addition to the competitive professional field, more than 2,400 registered age-group registered to compete in this year’s IRONMAN World Championship. The largest international athlete field in this race’s history represented 66 countries, regions and territories on six continents. Athletes ranging in age from 18 to 84 earned their championship opportunity by having finished among the best at one of more than 40 qualifying IRONMAN events worldwide.
