Triathlon Business International (TBI) has announced the topics for the Race Directors (RD) and Race Directors’ Services track, the final of three curricula tracks, for the 8th Annual TBI Conference, taking place on 26-28 January 2018 at the Mission Palms Resort in Tempe, Arizona.
Similar to the Retailers/Manufacturers and Coaches/Clubs topics, the RD and RD Services Track topics were developed through a committee. This was led by Mike O’Neil of Columbia Threadneedle Investments Boston Triathlon and comprised of Penni Bengtson, Finish Line Productions; Kelly Burns Gallagher, McCarter & English; Ryan Coelho, USA Productions Events; Danae Moraitis, Transition Sports; and Dan Ashworth, Ashworth Awards.

Volunteers. Waiver language. Stolen customer data. Who is responsible for a security breach? Is stolen customer data covered by your insurance; indemnified by your registration vendor?

“The earliest triathletes came back from the IRONMAN with fires in their bellies,” said TBI President Dan Empfield. “They wanted to reproduce their IRONMAN event experience for those in their own hometowns. While they didn’t know it at the time, they founded an industry.
“Seven members of TBI’s Race Director Committee invested weeks to produce a curriculum for one of our industry’s most important stakeholders, race directors. The committee’s mission wasn’t to teach race direction, rather to help RDs prevail and prosper in business.”

Non-members will have the opportunity to join TBI during the conference registration process. Those who join TBI at registration will receive the US$100 discount of a current member.

Conference hotel block
Room reservations at the Tempe Mission Palms are now open for the conference. TBI has a room block for the conference dates at a US$179/night rate, which is a 40% discount off the published weekend rate. This room block is limited and attendees are encouraged to reserve their rooms as soon as possible to avoid missing the opportunity. Conference registration opens at 09:00 local time on Friday 26 January, and outdoor activities are also planned for the morning. Thursday night reservations are available at this rate on a very limited basis.
