The Sufferfest, creator of cycling videos for individual and group training, has announced its fifth annual Tour of Sufferlandria, billed as ‘the Greatest Grand Tour of a Mythical Nation’, which will be held from 4-12 February 2017.

Every year, thousands of riders from around the world participate in a nine-day test of endurance, either in their ‘personal bike torture chambers at home or at one of the 130 plus Sufferlandrian Embassies located across 13 countries’. The Tour benefits the Davis Phinney Foundation and its work to help improve the lives of those affected by Parkinson’s disease. Over the past four years, the Tour has raised over US$300,000 for the Foundation.

“We’re amazed at the way the Tour of Sufferlandria brings the community together,” said American Cycling Legend and Davis Phinney Foundation founder, Davis Phinney. “We have a saying that every victory counts. Completing the Tour isn’t just an accomplishment in itself, but one that helps those living with Parkinson’s achieve their own victories.”

Riders should be prepared for an difficult week of suffering – this year’s Tour will not only test the resolve and endurance of the peloton, but will feature nine rigorous stages, taking the rider through an intense journey through some of the toughest workouts The Sufferfest has to offer.

Race Director, Grunter von Agony, designed the route to challenge riders to push their limits, selecting such daunting titles from The Sufferfest, such as Long Scream and Nine Hammers to ‘showcase the beauty and intensity of the Tour’.

The Tour’s stages, some of which consist of multiple videos done back-to-back, give a brief glimpse of what is to come during the nine-day undertaking. The Sufferfest has teamed up with industry partners like Thomson Bike Tours, Wattbike, and Wahoo Fitness — all of whom have donated prizes — to sponsor individual stages:

  • Stage 1: Igniter and Long Scream
  • Stage 2, presented by Thomson Bike Tours: The Way Out and Power Station
  • Stage 3 : The Tour’s first-ever velodrome stage, The Omnium
  • Stage 4: Angels
  • Stage 5: Nine Hammers
  • Stage 6: There is No Try
  • Stage 7: Hell Hath No Fury
  • Stage 8, presented by Wattbike: Revolver, Revolver is Easy and Half is Easy
  • Stage 9, presented by Wahoo Fitness: It Seemed Like Thin Air, featuring the Tour’s first Summit Finish on Mt. Sufferlandria

Those left in the peloton at the end of Stage 9 will ‘earn glory, a chance to win one of several fantastic prizes donated by the Tour’s generous sponsors, and a place among the immortal legends of Sufferlandrian cycling’.

“This fifth edition of the Tour won’t be for the faint of heart,” said von Agony. “We’ve designed this Tour so that riders will be pushed to the edge of suffering, all while benefiting and improving the lives of those affected by Parkinson’s Disease.”

To participate in this year’s Tour of Sufferlandria, riders can register online and make a minimum donation of US$10 to the Davis Phinney Foundation.
