Breathable upper for new HOKA ONE ONE Clifton 5

The new Clifton 5 shoe from HOKA ONE ONE retains the weight-to–cushion ratio that has ‘propelled the franchise to the top of HOKA’s sales charts’. In continuance of the popular Clifton 4 shoe, the 5 retains the midsole and outsole, but undergoes a slight pattern adjustment in the puff-print upper.

According to the company, this is in order to increase breathability and create a more open, accommodating fit. The shoe became available on 21st June 2018, with an RRP of £115.

Vincent Bouillard, Innovation Product Developer at HOKA ONE ONE said “Compared to its predecessor, Clifton 5 embeds a new pattern for its upper engineered mesh, improving its performance strategically. The performance of the bottom-unit remains unchanged, as its compound and geometry are the same as with the Clifton 4.

“The engineered mesh is of the same nature as the one previously used on Clifton 4, still providing excellent comfort all around the foot. The pattern designed on this engineered mesh has been revised from Clifton 4 to Clifton 5 to add more open-areas for enhanced breathability in key zones such as medial/lateral midfoot and throat.”

He continued, “With all the technology embedded in the midsole/outsole, providing an optimum balance of cushioning, versatility and dynamism, this bottom-unit is clearly aligned with Clifton heritage. As for the upper, its overall simplicity, yet with just what is needed in terms of technical details (open-areas of the engineered mesh and puff-print overlays around the collar for adaptive support) provide the performance needed for your everyday trainer.”

Bouillard added, “Since versatility is a clear asset of the Clifton 5, its potential range of users is wide. It could be for our best HOKA athletes, for who the Clifton 5 will be the go-to shoe for long runs and easy strides. But Clifton 5 can also be the race-ready shoe for more casual runners and/or people used to train with more supportive shoes such as the Bondi 6.”
