Cervélo is taking its six-year sponsorship of the Wounded Warriors Canada Battlefield Bike Ride to the next level by donating 10 x C5 framesets with a unique paint job.
The collector’s-edition C5 framesets honour both the Battlefield Bike Ride’s mission and the heroes it helps: ill and injured Canadian Forces Members, Veterans, First Responders and their families. Cervélo’s design team incorporated meticulous details in the C5 framesets, such as Wounded Warriors Canada’s ‘Honour the Fallen, Help the Living’ motto on the toptube, and the #INTHISTOGETHER hashtag on the inside of the rear chainstays.
Veterans who have seen the new paint are said to be thrilled with it. “What you have managed to pull off here is a million miles beyond brilliant,” said wounded vet Todd McGowan. “This is much more than a bike frame, and truly needs to be honoured as such. I really don’t have the words to express my sincere appreciation.”
The first C5 frameset is now available for purchase as part of a week-long auction that aims to add to the C$2.5 million the Battlefield Bike Ride has raised to date. All funds support Wounded Warriors Canada’s national mental health programs and services.
From June 9-16, Battlefield Bike Ride (BBR) cyclists rode approximately 600km through Bosnia-Herzegovina and Croatia. The peloton passed through many places of significance to those Canadian Armed Forces members who served in the Balkan theatre a quarter-century ago.
The 2019 Wounded Warriors Canada Battlefield Bike Ride will take place from May 30 to June 6 in France as the world commemorates the 75th anniversary of D-Day.
