The Fxck Cancer Tri Team has partnered with Red Truck to ‘utilize high-quality used athletic gear in the fundraising process’. A release from Red Truck, the sports marketplace for good causes, notes that ‘bicycles collecting dust in garages can now be used to meet fundraising goals’.
As a specialist e-commerce platform, Red Truck adds that it empowers teams and athletes of all levels to monetize their excess gear and to donate a portion of the proceeds to the cause of their choice. As part of the new partnership, Fxck Cancer Tri Team members can list their excess gear on RedTruck.com and decide what percentage of the sale price they would like to go directly to the Fxck Cancer Organization.
Red Truck is a platform that aims to celebrate the accomplishments of athletes, and generate revenue for good causes through the exchange of high-quality gear. Red Truck adds that it is eager to tell the stories of the Fxck Cancer Tri Team and spread awareness of their efforts.
“We are inspired by the individuals who turn their athletic interests into fundraising pursuits and make the celebration of sport about something bigger,” said Red Truck CEO Michael Bergmann. “Our role is to build community support around the outstanding efforts of teams like the Fxck Cancer Triathlon Team and serve as trusted resource for the sale of premium sporting gear.”
The Fxck Cancer Organization was started in 2005 when Brandon Sean McGuiness was enduring his own battle with cancer but wanted to help other families fighting the disease. The organization’s efforts are centred around raising awareness, increasing early cancer detection, and creating life-changing experiences for cancer fighters.
Jayson Williams started the Fxck Cancer Triathlon Team in August, 2017 after the sudden loss of a dear friend to a brain tumour. Despite being a husband and father with a full-time career, Williams has already grown the team to over 400 members who each agree to raise US$350 annually. Athletes attracted to support include professional triathlete Heather Jackson.
“I am excited about this new opportunity for the Tri Team members to be able to meet fundraising goals through the sale of quality used gear,” said Jayson Williams. “Triathletes have plenty of gear that is in great shape but has been replaced by newer models, and this allows them to pass that along to a new user while also helping families battling cancer.”
