Granfondo Campagnolo Roma expands charity partnerships

The eighth edition of Granfondo Campagnolo Roma will take place on 13 October 2019. The closed road sportive in Italy is working with a number of charities – supporting youth activity participation, male health and cystic fibrosis research.

Granfondo Campagnolo Roma has a new charity partnership with Rete del Dono – Pettorale Solidale, aiming to encourage participants to ride in support of their chosen charity. The three supported charities are the Fondazione Umberto Veronesi, Sport Senza Frontiere and La Fondazione per la Ricerca sulla Fibrosi Cistica.

All participants are encouraged to raise funds for their favourite of the three Rete del Dono-approved charities, while taking on the closed roads of the Granfondo Campagnolo Roma.

When entrants sign up to the Granfondo Campagnolo Roma, In Bici ai Castelli, L’Imperiale or Ride Roma, they can choose one of the Rete del Dono-approved non-profit organizations, in the process becoming a charity ambassador.

Fondazione Umberto Veronesi
La Fondazione Umberto Veronesi (Umberto Veronesi Foundation) is the Official Charity Partner of Granfondo Campagnolo Roma 2019. Starting with a donation of only €20, riders can help the foundation support scientific research into male oncology, through the ‘Salute al maschile’ (male health) project. The Umberto Veronesi Foundation was founded in 2015 and is dedicated to the promotion of male health.

Sport Senza Frontiere and #BackToSport
Sport Senza Frontiere (Sport Without Frontiers) works to encourage social inclusion through sport, supporting children and teenagers that live in socio-economically challenging conditions. By choosing to help Sport Senza Frontiere, riders can help guarantee that children are looked after by expert educators and psychologists, become part of a sports team and practice sport for a whole year.

La Fondazione per la Ricerca sulla Fibrosi Cistica and Task Force project
La Fondazione per la Ricerca sulla Fibrosi Cistica (Cystic Fibrosis Research Foundation) funds advanced research projects to improve the length and the quality of life of patients living with cystic fibrosis, and aims to permanently defeat this currently incurable disease. The Task Force project is currently aiming to develop a life-saving medicine that will positively affect 70% of Italian cystic fibrosis patients. Since 2002, the Foundation has invested €20 million that have supported 291 research projects, involving more than 170 laboratories.

Granfondo Campagnolo Roma starts outside the Roman Colosseum. Covering 120km with over 2,000m of climbing through the landscape of Castelli Romani and Lake Albano, the Granfondo weaves back to Rome via the Terme di Caracalla – all on closed roads.

Other events over the weekend of 11-13 October include the non-competitive ‘In bici ai Castelli’ 60km ride to Lake Albano that returns to Rome through the scenery of Roman castles, and the 25km ‘Ride Roma’, which is open to families and children aged five and older. For lovers of historic cycling, the special ‘L’Imperiale – The Appian Way’ is an event reserved for riders dressed in vintage clothing on pre-1987 bicycles.
