Hell of the West in Australia joins Spirit Tri Series

Spirit Multisport has announced the expansion of the Spirit Tri Series into the Asia Pacific region with the addition of iconic Australian triathlon, Hell of the West, located in the outback Queensland town of Goondiwindi.

The Spirit Tri Series which launched in 2019, originally brought together four long-standing, independent European races. The initial races include Triathlon Portocolom (Mallorca), Chiemsee Triathlon (Germany), Alpe d’Huez Triathlon, (France) and Trans Vorarlberg Triathlon (Austria).

With the inclusion of the Hell of the West Triathlon, the series has taken its first step into the Asia Pacific region as it looks to expand both in Europe, Asia Pacific and beyond.

Spirit Chief Executive Officer, Tom Sutton, said “The Hell of the West triathlon has been running for more than 30 years and over that time has built and consistently delivered a race that is about providing athletes with the best experience while supporting the local community.

“Like all the Spirit Tri Series races, Hell of the West promotes the most important traditions of triathlon, providing a true test of an athlete’s abilities on a tough and fair course.”

Hell of the West has also seen many famous triathletes compete and win over the years, including multiple world champions, such as as Tim Reed, Pete Jacobs, Max Neuman, Sarah Crowley, Lisa Bentley, Kate Major and Kate Beckinsale.

The Hell of the West, which is held in February each year, will offer qualification slots for the Spirit Tri Series’ highlight event, the Alpe d’Huez Triathlon in France, taking place next year on 31 July, 2020.

Hell of the West Event Director, Tim Richards, said “We are delighted to be part of the Spirit Tri Series and joining historic, strong, independent triathlon events in Europe who share the same goals and vision for the sport. We will continue to offer our athletes the best possible home-grown race experience for visitors to Goondiwindi.”

The Barambah Organics Hell of the West Triathlon will take place as part of the Festival of Hell – Goondiwindi on Sunday 9th, February 2020. Details surrounding club and pro fields will be released soon:
