Play Sports Group has appointed of Jeremy Powers as the new presenter of its leading road cycling channel, Global Cycling Network (GCN). Founded in 2013, GCN is home to ‘the world’s largest and fastest-growing road cycling community’. Its video content is watched worldwide by 8 million unique monthly users.

With a major following in the USA along with other English-language speaking territories, bringing a top-level US racer to the channel’s team is seen as a significant attraction. Multiple US National Cyclo-Cross Champion Jeremy Powers starts with GCN on 1st June.

Jeremy Powers is an American professional racing cyclist, not just across cyclo-cross – for which he is best known. He has an extensive palmares that includes four US national titles, and top-level CX racing in Europe – spanning a career that includes 10 years as a professional road rider.

Having just retired as a pro rider, Powers will offer up his experience of owning and managing his own team and nurturing new talent, along with founding and running a cycling-focused charity – the JAM Fund, dedicated to enriching the lives of young riders.

Powers is known for presenting and producing the popular ‘Behind The Barriers’ series of videos – with his own production company linked to the charity. He also brings a unique perspective on competitive racing, and a new angle for access to racing and its stars, and ideas for programme delivery.

Powers’ experience on camera contributes to the match-up with GCN, ‘the world’s leading road cycling channel’. Presented by former pro riders, GCN now boasts over 26 million monthly views. In a release it was noted that… ‘Powers’ New England accent will be the perfect foil to the ‘old English’ accents of Dan Lloyd, Simon Richardson, and the rest of the UK-based GCN presenter team.’

New GCN presenter Jeremy Powers said “Joining GCN is an opportunity that I’m over the moon to accept! I couldn’t have dreamt a better fit than joining this incredibly talented and hardworking team. As I transition from life as a professional rider to my new role, I’m really excited.

“I’ve always had a lot of passion for video, story-telling and documenting to create something special for fans of the sport of cycling. The GCN crew have been doing this for many years, so to be able to join them and learn from this group of super talented people is a dream come true and one that I’m so humbled to be accepting.

“I’m looking forward to seeing a lot of friends and fans I’ve made over the years at events this coming season and continuing to be out there, enjoying the sport in a whole new capacity with all of you, in person and online!”

Simon Wear, Founder and CEO, Play Sports Group, said “I am delighted to bring Jeremy on board with the Global Cycling Network. What an amazing rider, a true modern-day legend in his field, and a brilliantly positive, insightful and generous character. I know the UK-based GCN presenters are as excited as I am about having a permanently US-based colleague, and especially one who has been there, done that… and won it. And then won it again…”

Wear added, “As we continue to internationalise our business – our Spanish language and Italian-specific channels are soon to be joined by GCN channels in other territories – it’s vital that we continue to bring the best, most informed presenters to the English language GCN, and it’s important that we serve our US-based audience. And that’s just what we have in Jeremy Powers.”
