Playa de Muro, situated in Alcudia Bay, North Majorca, is the chosen location to house the start and the finish of the new Mallorca 140.6 triathlon, which will be held on 24 October 2020. The course will start in the clear waters of the kilometre long, fine white sand beach, next to the roads for the cycling segment and the flat run course.
The organising team at local company Kumulus noted that.. ‘This beautiful course will establish this race once again as one of the top events on the European long distance triathlon scene.’
Mallorca 140.6 consists of a 3,800m swim, 180km bike and 42.197km run – with the half distance being half of each of these distances. The event hub will be located at Muro Beach, Alcudia Bay, including the start and finish, swim and run section, double transition between each discipline, the expo and the official hotels.
After the swim, the bike segment consists of 2 laps of 90km, with around 500m of altitude each lap. The cycling route will pass municipalities well known to international cyclists such as Muro, Can Picafort, Santa Margalida, Maria de la Salut, Ariany, Sineu, Llubi, Sa Pobla and Alcudia.
The organising team add that ‘A key element which is of upmost importance to this event will be the control of drafting. In order to ensure that all athletes cover the 180kms of the bike course in unbeatable conditions and with maximum safety measures, a series of very strict actions will be administered to prevent athletes from riding in a peloton or drafting of any sort. This will be monitored by a large number of technical officials on the course and by limiting the number of participants to 1,500.’
The run section will be on a flat 10km course around Es Llac Gran, with the finish line in the urban heart of Playa de Muro.
Mallorca 140.6 takes its name from the total amount of miles of the race, the equivalent of 226 kilometres. Parallel to the long distance event, there will also be a half distance race – Mallorca 140.6 Triathlon HALF – featuring 1,900m swim, 90km bike and 21km run.
Mallorca 140.6 is organised by Kumulus and is supported by Muro City Council, the Muro Beach Hotel Association, Balearic Islands Tourism, Majorca Tourism Foundation and The Balearic Triathlon Federation.
