The organizers of the Half-Marathon World Championships – which will be held in Gdynia, Poland, on March 29, 2020 – have unveiled the event’s new logo. The official website of the event will also be launched in the coming days. Almost 10,000 people are already reported to be on the start list for next year’s event.
The organizers noted that the official logo of the championship event seeks to directly refer to its location. Gdynia is a ‘city of the sea and dreams’; hence the motif of the sea wave found in the logotype. The Gdynia Half Marathon ‘almost touches the Baltic Sea’. It starts from Kościuszko Square. The last part of the route goes along the Seaside Boulevard, and the unique finish is located on the beach
Along with the logo presentation, the official name of the event has changed – World Athletics Half Marathon Championships Gdynia 2020.
Both the official logo and the new name are associated with the event’s rebranding process, which is undergoing in liaison with the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).
Following the 2019 World Athletics Championships in Doha, the IAAF will officially transform into World Athletics. As a result, the international governing body’s logo and its entire visual identity will change.
“This also affects the World Athletics Half Marathon Championships Gdynia and all future championships held under the patronage of World Athletics,” explained Piotr Jakóbik from the Polish agency Sport Evolution, which is organising the Gdynia 2020 event.
Since the beginning of May 2019, registration has been open for amateurs who want to participate in the event in Poland. Registration is carried out on the SlotMarket.pl portal, and the current entry fee is PLN 160. This price includes professional timekeeping, insurance, medical protection and a commemorative t-shirt and finisher medal, which the organizers promise to present in the coming weeks. The basic starter package can also be supplemented with additional services, such as insurance against the costs of cancelling participation in the event, engraving a medal, an individual photo package or accommodation in one of the event’s recommended hotels.
The current entry fee is valid until the end of September. From October 1, the entry fee will increase to PLN 170.
