Following the conclusion of this year’s Challenge Family The Championship less than a month ago – Challenge Family is already looking forward to next year’s edition, which will be held on 31 May 2020. Registrations for next year’s event have now opened.
This year saw 1500 participating age groupers and a strong field of professional athletes – with overall victory going to Sebastian Kienle and Lucy Charles.
Lucy Charles, who has won the race for three times in a row, said, “This is one of my most favourite races of the year with an amazing crowd and an amazing venue. It’s even like a second home for me.”
Sebastian Kienle, this year’s male winner, calls The Championship an unforgettable event. He said, “To only talk about this race, makes me smile. I’ve been doing triathlons on the highest level for a very long time, but this is one of the races where everything is perfectly arranged. It’s always nice to come here.”
The 1500 athletes represented 60 different nationalities at this year’s edition of the event. “It’s amazing to see all these people from all over the world”, said Challenge Family CEO Zibi Szlufcik. “Since most of them are staying in the beautiful X-bionic Sphere during the race weekend, there is some sort of triathlon vibe everywhere. This brings people together, enjoying our sport, enjoying our event, enjoying our passion.”
The Championship swim course will be a 1900m lap in the Danube. The 90km bike course will take athletes through the surroundings of Samorin in Slovakia and the run is a 7km loop though the X-bionic Sphere spors resort.
Challenge Family’s Zibi Szlufcik added, “So, if you qualify for this race and you have the chance to come over, please make sure you’re part of this flagship event.”
A professional qualifying system enables professional athletes to qualify for The Championship 2019 via Challenge Family events worldwide.
Age Group athletes will have the opportunity to qualify with a top six age group finish at any Challenge Family event worldwide during the qualification period. Top 6 teams in the male, female and mixed categories in relay events will qualify for The Championship at Challenge Family events. Slots will roll down in each age group and relay category up to 12th place. There is no roll down system for the pros.
