1,500 runners step out for inaugural Thailand by UTMB

The inaugural edition of Thailand by UTMB took place at the weekend. Despite challenges presented by Covid-19, the ultra run event, hosted by Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT), took on the virus and the elements.

In addition to a need to keep the event Covid-safe, day one of Thailand by UTMB also had to contend with Typhoon Molave. The storm slammed into Vietnam and passed over Thailand on October 30th. This meant that the Thailand by UTMB team had to deploy back-up plans to ensure the safety of all runners as well as event volunteers, staff and media.

The event in Thailand was filmed by ICARUS Sports, which offers a range of media services include video & photo shooting, live-streaming, documentaries, daily TV news, media distribution and media reporting.

More than 1,500 runners headed to Doi Inthanon, the highest mountain in Thailand in the Chiang Mai Province. The event ran across two days, October 30th and November 1st.

It is part of a growing series of UTMB ultra run events. Other events in the series include:

  • Gaoligong by UTMB
  • Oman by UTMB
  • Val d’Aran by UTMB
  • UTMB Mont-Blanc
