IMG, the organiser of the iconic Escape From Alcatraz Triathlon has confirmed that this year’s event, due to take place on June 7, 2020, has been cancelled.
The ESCAPE Aquathlon, which was scheduled to place on Saturday, June 6, 2020, at 07:00 PST, the day before the Escape From Alcatraz Triathlon, has also been cancelled. This year’s triathlon was also due to celebrate the event’s 40th anniversary.

Jennifer Lau, Vice President of Action Sports Events at IMG, confirmed “The health and safety of everyone involved in the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon and ESCAPE Aquathlon remains our top priority, so in light of continued global health concerns regarding COVID-19 and guidance from local, state and federal authorities, we regret to announce that this year’s events will not take place.
“We thank our loyal participants, partners and staff for their support, and look forward to bringing the triathlon community together again and celebrating 40 years of our race in 2021.”
