Garmin Connect, the accessory brand’s popular online platform has been shut down – with reports indicating that it has suffered a ransomware attack.
All services – the Garmin Connect app, website and call centres – have been affected, and have been inaccessible for the past 24-48 hours.
The company issued a statement…
We are currently experiencing an outage that affects Garmin Connect, and as a result, the Garmin Connect website and mobile app are down at this time. This outage also affects our call centers, and we are currently unable to receive any calls, emails or online chats. We are working to resolve this issue as quickly as possible and apologize for this inconvenience.
The shutdown of the service has meant that athletes have been unable to sync their activities from their devices, i.e. run watches and bike computers. In turn, this has meant that auto-synching between Garmin Connect and platforms such as Strava are currently not possible.
Garmin users will need to manually upload their workouts to Strava while the outage continues.
Further details on the outage have not been provided by Garmin in the past 24 hours – and it remains unclear if any user data has been affected during the purported ransomware attack.
