Eurafrica, a European trail running race, will deploy IDOVEN sports cardiology services at home for runners who request it. The service provides a personalized report so that participants can ‘face the race in the best conditions.’
Cardiology company IDOVEN notes that it continues to expand its partnerships with race and sports event promoters around the world, with the goal of reducing sudden death among competitors.

Now running for more than six years, Eurafrica is this year scheduled to take place between October 30 and November 2. The race usually takes in two continents and three countries. Although, this year and due to the health situation caused by COVID-19, it will be held entirely in Andalusia, Spain, between the provinces of Malaga and Cádiz.
Dr Manuel Marina Breysse, CEO and co-founder of IDOVEN, is a research scientist at the National Center for Cardiovascular Research (CNIC) and a cardiologist on leave of absence from the Spanish Agency for Health Protection in Sports (AEPSAD).
He said, “Any organizer would be much more relaxed knowing that many of the runners who wear a race number have passed through our services (monitoring their heart in their day to day life, training, resting and working) and that they have no problem. No organizer likes a tragic misfortune to happen.”
IDOVEN notes that stress tests are important to know how the heart reacts to a specific effort in a controlled environment. The company adds that it goes further, ‘monitoring everything that happens in the heart of an athlete while training, resting and working.’
It offers a ‘complete service that will make the athlete understand their heart, and its limits, without having to go to any medical or sports centre.’
IDOVEN is supported by artificial intelligence and is claiming to redefine the way heart problems are diagnosed. With its monitoring kit, it can also help prevent heart disease.
IDOVEN is a medical start-up founded in 2018 by three Spanish entrepreneurs. It arose during the preparation of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games when the team combined the work of sports cardiology at the Higher Sports Council (CSD) with research at the National Center for Cardiovascular Research (CNIC).
The company’s software, based on artificial intelligence, analyzes the beats – electrocardiograms – of patients’ hearts. This helps to detect possible heart problems early and non-invasively.
Steps
- Choose a medical study – for athletes, options include 24 hours, 7 days or 21 days of analysis – with prices ranging from €125 to €450.
- Remote cardiology – a monitoring device is shipped, and a courier collects the kit once the study is completed.
- Receive results – a cardiological diagnosis and medical recommendation is received in less than 7 days.
Leading up to the Eurafrica trail race, IDOVEN will monitor the activity of athletes’ hearts every day, while training, working or resting.
