Inside the news: interview with Matt Brooke at Spartan

Continuing our series of ‘inside the news’ video interviews, endurance.biz spoke with Matt Brooke, Managing Director, UK & Ireland, at Spartan.

The discussion touched upon a number of areas, including how Spartan has been coping, and adapting, during the current crisis.

On virtual racing specifically, Matt felt that it is here to stay, as it presents an opportunity to engage with new audiences. By competing virtually in the comfort of their own home or garden, participants ‘own the parameters’. From this, the act of completing a virtual event provides a stepping stone to taking on a real world event.

Matt points out that virtual racing is a tool of engagement and is part of the customer journey. Spartan is also reviewing if its own virtual races could be a tool for qualifying for its future world championships.

Spartan has put its mark in the sand regarding the latest government guidelines, with an umbrella initiative called ‘Road to Racing’. This sees three live events planned in the UK this October.

As an international organisation, Spartan has recently reviewed different operating factors in different territories – from Florida, to Taiwan, Korea, Hungary and the Czech Republic – as they relate to different Covid-scenarios.

This has helped Spartan build its ‘Unbreakable Code’ – a set of measures being put in place to safely deliver its events under Covid restrictions.
