A letter from Rouleur Italia’s new Editor, Emilio Previtali, has given some background to Rouleur’s new title and multimedia offering for Italian cycling fans…
The Rouleur Italia project started while the whole world paused for the lockdown. All of us, perhaps for the first time in life, were struggling with the absolute impossibility of traveling, meeting, sharing ideas, visions and projects with other humans. Yet although we paused, we didn’t stop.
We have spent many days and a few nights connected with Matteo [Cassina] working by video, imagining, developing and fine-tuning the project. When lockdown eased we were finally able to work together at the same table, meeting in person and riding together. Work began with the whole Rouleur team, a passionate and motivated group of people and it becomes a more exciting project every day.
The objectives were clear right from the start: to bring more of the stories of Italy and its cycling traditions, industry, artisans, races and companies directly to the international audience of Rouleur. At the same time we want to bring a bit of Rouleur, our international outlook and eye for cycling culture, into Italian cycling – timeless journalism, stunning photography, art and design and the most beautiful cycling bikes and gear.
Rouleur represents more than a sport, it captures the spirit of cycling across print, web, social media, podcast, video, unique cycling experiences and much more. And yes, that includes pedalling with you. We want to bring our Italian readers, and all the others from more than 90 countries around the world, to ride with us.
If you are an Italian speaker you have read and appreciated Rouleur in English up until now, the time has finally come to read in Italian and to experience every part of Rouleur without compromise.
Rouleur Italia will not be a simple translation of the English version but a real edition in Italian, with an international flavour.
My role as editor for Rouleur Italia will be both challenging and exciting. In coordination with Rouleur’s talented editorial team, I will not only be involved in translating, commissioning and writing stories as a journalist or author, but creating a narrative ecosystem within which to grow our project.
Rouleur Italia will be a container of thoughts and initiatives where all of us Italian cycling enthusiasts – riders, journalists, cycling industry, local authorities and of course readers – together will be able to imagine the cycling of the future and help it grow, in Italy and beyond.
The stories, people and Italian companies will end up not only in the Italian edition of the magazine but also in international editions, and vice versa. The sport of cycling has become a global movement and the Italian scene is second to none. Our roads, our bicycles, our products, our passion, our stories, our companies deserve an international stage and an Italian language edition of Rouleur with its own Italian editorial office.
‘Inside the peloton’ is our tag-line, racing and riders are the beating heart of Rouleur. We will continue to cover cycling with the same care and authority as always, while expanding our multimedia universe within which every enthusiast can experience cycling in an authentic and interactive way.
If you’ve already experienced our award-winning international edition, you will know what makes Rouleur special – the stories we tell and how we select them. Our next issue is the hundredth issue of the Rouleur’s international edition and will be a fitting start to a new era of Rouleur Italia.
