Premium cycling media operation Rouleur has reportedly been acquired by Matteo Cassina – an investor and former banker. Cassina is the owner of premium bike brand Passoni, and he was an existing shareholder in the Rouleur business.
Rouleur was originally founded by apparel brand Rapha in 2006. It was then acquired by Gruppo Media, which has managed the business to date, prior to the sale. There are currently three main operations: Rouleur Journal; Rouleur Emporium online retail; and the Rouleur Classic premium bike expo.
According to specialist media site Flashes & Flames… ‘Some 80% of Rouleur’s £1.8 million revenue in 2019 came equally from the magazine and exhibition, and almost 20% from e-commerce including clothing, books and tools.’
The Rouleur Classic show is billed as the world’s finest road cycling exhibition and each event hosts a collection of the world’s foremost bicycles, brands, exhibits, and talent. Launched in London in 2015, the show now has expanded with international editions in Melbourne, Australia, and now Los Angeles, California, USA.
