IRONMAN VR4 took place over the weekend, open to the entire community of IRONMAN athletes. The event was a 5150 event distance simulation, with a 3 km run, 40 km ride, and run 10 km. The three sessions could be completed between 18:00 GMT on Friday, April 24, and 23:59 GMT on Sunday, April 26.
As the fourth race in the IRONMAN Virtual Racing Series, IRONMAN VR4 had 23,783 athletes registered to participate – with 14,280 finishers over the weekend.
Finisher numbers, however, were down on previous IRONMAN Virtual Racing Series events:
- IRONMAN VR3 had 20,257 finishers out of 33,259 registered athletes.
- IRONMAN VR2 had a total of 16,388 finishers out 23,007 athletes registered.
- IRONMAN VR1 had 6,696 finishers out of 11,050 registered athletes.
IRONMAN VR4 Pro Challenge
Also across the weekend, professional athletes competed in the IRONMAN VR4 Pro Challenge, a head-to-head-to-head-to-head pro competition utilizing IRONMAN’s Official Virtual Training partner ROUVY for the bike portion.
The fourth edition of the IRONMAN VR Pro Challenge saw four professional women compete on Saturday and four professional men compete on Sunday on a simulation of the IRONMAN 5150 Boulder 40 km bike course. Emma Pallant of the UK won the women’s race and Arnaud Guilloux of France took the top honours in the men’s race.
Live coverage was available exclusively through the IRONMAN Now Facebook Watch page. All registered age-group athletes also had the ability to ride alongside thepPros. By logging onto ROUVY, athletes could choose to ride with the professionals on Saturday and Sunday.
