Red Bull Media House has announced the airing of ‘Any One of Us’, the Sports Emmy award-winning story of mountain biker Paul Basagoitia’s journey through a dramatic spinal cord injury. The show aired in the UK this week, on BBC Three from Thursday 17th September.
When professional mountain biker Paul Basagoitia experienced a devastating spinal cord injury (SCI) in 2015, his life changed in an instant. Over his 11-year career, he was known as one of the most talented bike riders of his generation, dominating the world of slopestyle and big air bike competitions. However, a mid-race crash sent Paul’s life into disarray when he became paralysed, possibly never to ride a bike again.
Through the course of ‘Any One Of Us’, Paul begins an intense physical and emotional journey to recover and adapt, initially living in the hope of one day being able to walk again; as he once did. His excruciating recovery unfolds in real-time through raw, intimate footage – much of which was filmed by Paul himself.
Other spinal cord survivors join Paul throughout the film, shining a light on the challenges that those with life-altering spinal cord injuries now face.
Any One of Us is a Red Bull Media House film, directed by Fernando Villena. Winner of Outstanding Editing at the 2020 Sports Emmy Awards, Red Bull Media House’s proceeds from licensing the film will benefit the Wings For Life – Spinal Cord Research Foundation.
