Busby 2.0 is now live bringing enhanced features to users. The updated version of the safety app ‘protects cyclists, runners, horse riders and all vulnerable road users with improved patent pending features such as Busby Flare, RoadRadar and GroupRide due soon.’
Flare allows users to send out an SOS message to surrounding users within a 5 mile radius. This connects them with Busby users who are potentially willing to help and allows them to give their location and ask for assistance. Flare also connects users to nearby bike stores.
RoadRadar is a separate app which allows vehicle drivers to know as and when a Busby vulnerable road user is in a dangerous proximity. This raises driver awareness and helps prevent any human error.
A release from the Busby team noted ‘Our aim here is to reduce risk and allow multiple road users to share the roads together, safely. Lack of driver awareness is the leading cause of death and serious injury on the roads and we are already in advanced talks with some of the largest HGV and insurance companies in the country to adopt RoadRadar and build a safety bridge between our users, and drivers.’
GroupRide allows users to join a group on the Busby app and set a safety radius around everyone. If it’s a large group it could be 500m radius, or small group could be 50-100m. If a user goes outside of the set radius, everyone else in the group receives a notification to either slow down or turn back to help. This is positioned as a way of keeping everyone together safely, ideal for cycling clubs and nervous cyclists.
Busby 2.0 now rewards users for being safe by offering coins per mile which they can spend on in-app discounts or enter monthly competitions. Users are also given 50 coins for every user they refer the app to.
Launched in 2019 the simple incident detection app, which uses sensors in a mobile phone to automatically detect a crash or a fall, geolocate the user and alert their emergency contacts is available for free download on any IOS and Android Smartphones.
It is used by cyclists, walkers, horse riders, runners and road users to predict, prevent, detect and analyse road accidents, and is now active in 32 countries, across six continents and has reportedly already saved three lives.

Busby partners include Limar, Giro, Muc-Off, Craghoppers, QuadLock, Blackmore and Hedkayse. These brands offer discounts off their own products and services for Busby users. Welsh Cycling has announced Busby as its official incident detection partner and a number of global food couriers are reportedly looking to partner with Busby and increase the safety of their riders whilst out on the roads.
