Spartan bids to improve workplace wellbeing with Corporate Challenge

In a bid to ‘revolutionise corporate entertainment and improve employee wellness’ within workplaces across the UK and Ireland, Spartan has launched its biggest corporate platform to date. For the 2020 season, Spartan is offering two corporate packages, whereby teams of five or more can race 5km and overcome 25 unique and challenging obstacles in four different locations: Wales, Ireland, Yorkshire and the iconic Twickenham Stadium in London.

“At Spartan, we’re seeing the benefits of adventure-fitness corporate experiences first-hand and we want to revolutionise corporate entertainment while improving the overall well-being of employees across the nation,” said Spartan UK and Ireland Managing Director, Matthew Brooke.

“Our 2020 corporate programme is all about making healthier workplaces by encouraging fitness, developing interpersonal relationships, and inspiring confidence and resilience in vulnerability.”

An alarming report from the Centre for Mental Health found that only 26% of UK businesses have a wellbeing programme in place, compared to an average of 42% in the rest of the world. Furthermore, it is estimated that, in 2019, mental ill health at work cost UK businesses over £30 billion and meant that 12.5 million workdays were lost as a result of work-related stress.

Looking to inspire real change and turn up that number, Spartan adds that it is on a UK-wide mission to encourage businesses to develop and enhance their corporate wellness programs to make a significant difference in the mental and physical health of the national workforce.

‘The packages have been designed to engage and inspire employees to get active, whilst developing a corporate culture of trust, resilience and teamwork through a unique, team bonding exercise.’

Following an inaugural event in 2019, Spartans Corporate Challenge Evening at Twickenham Stadium will return in December 2020 – ‘perfect for work Christmas parties with a twist’. Last year’s event saw a sell-out 300 teams participate and with more spaces open this year, attendance is expected to grow.

The 2019 event was subsequently nominated for the Sports Industry ‘Active Award’ for its role in ‘delivering an accessible and powerful participation event alongside a meaningful and innovative corporate programme.’

Spartan’s Matthew Brooke added “We firmly believe that we’re at the next frontier of corporate entertainment, and presently our industry is only just scratching the surface. I’m excited to welcome even more businesses and organisations to our events this season as we support them in developing more productive and healthier workforces.”

Spartan was founded by Joe De Sena in 2010 and has grown to become the world’s largest obstacle race and endurance brand, with more than 250 events in more than 40 countries worldwide.
