Having just scooped an ISPO Gold Award for a sustainable apparel partnership with adidas, the discussion with Jos Ruiterman at Megmeister covered some of the latest innovations in sports apparel.
With extensive expertise in the textile industry, Jos Ruiterman is passionate about sustainability and minimising the impact of apparel on the environment. The Megmeister brand name comes from the German word ‘meister’ for ‘master craftsperson’. The ‘meg’ refers to a ‘nutmeg’ in soccer when the ball is played through the opponent’s legs “to show them who’s boss.”
Jos said, “The brand name makes people smile. It’s unusual. We just went with it.”
Jos explained the sustainability and performance focus of Megmeister apparel – from the elimination of fabric waste, to the layers of fabric used to ensure wicking, the use of regenerated yarn, the need for biodegradability, and the brand’s performance, odour management and comfort features.
Jos also teased some new developments in the pipeline around bib shorts, as well as cooling apparel for runners.
