Challenge Gunsan-Saemangeum in South Korea is presenting a ‘digital twin’ of its international triathlon championship bike course. The triathlon is rolling out its first open official community race on ROUVY, taking place this weekend, on August 29th.
The real world Challenge Gunsan-Saemangeum is set to take place on October 3rd, 2021.
Due to COVID-19 travel restrictions, the Challenge Korea organising team found it difficult to invite foreign participants to take part in the event. Working with ROUVY, the event is inviting athletes to preview and enjoy taking part in the competition via the virtual race with ROUVY this weekend.
The cycle leg of Challenge Gunsan-Saemangeum is 90km (two laps of 45km) without high elevation changes; and the entire course takes the riders along ‘the world’s longest seawall’ (33.9km). This bike route is now available to all athletes on ROUVY’s virtual cycling platform.
Kyungho Kwak, CEO of Challenge Korea, said “COVID-19 changed everything and postponed the races all over the world. But Challenge Korea won’t stop the race from taking place and aims to keep the challenges alive and to keep improving participants’ experiences.
“This is the first Challenge Family virtual cycle event and also the very first Korean virtual race. We welcome all participants to this beautiful race course and to enjoy the race and training at your place with ROUVY.”
All finishers of the virtual event, in time-trial mode, are eligible for the chance to win one of the prize packages in a random draw:
- 3x Garmin Fenix 5s Plus smart watches
- 5x 2022 Challenge Gunsan-Saemangeum free entry
- 5x 2021 Challenge Gunsan-Saemangeum race package
The official race starts at 19:00 CET on August 29th, 2021. Registration is free and open to all ROUVY users.
