The organising team behind the 2021 edition of the Granfondo Stelvio Santini will donate €1 per participant to the Il Sorriso di Car-lotta not-for-profit voluntary organisation. The association was founded after the premature death in 2020 of neurologist Carlotta Emilia Bolis, wife of pro triathlete Giulio Molinari.
The Granfondo Stelvio Santini has this year, due to Covid restrictions, been moved from the start of June to September 12th.
‘Carlotta was committed to improving health in the Alta Valtellina and the association continues her work today.’
The Il Sorriso di Car-lotta non-profit organisation works in the Valtellina area where much of the Granfondo Stelvio Santini route can be found.
‘Founded by pro triathlete Giulio Molinari with the help of Livio Molinari, Jacopo Bolis, Gianluca Mario Stefano Albè and Thomas Confortola after the premature death in 2020 of Giulio’s wife, neurologist Carlotta Emilia Bolis, the organisation brings top doctors to Alta Valtellina for clinics and to help improve public health across the district. The project was Carlotta’s idea but now lives on thanks to commitment of a growing number of supporters.’
“We believe that sport and popular events like ours must act as a driver for positive initiatives like Il Sorriso di Car-lotta,” said Paola Santini, Marketing Manager at Santini Cycling Wear, “and so we were delighted to sign up for the project and are certain that the granfondo competitors will also embrace the genuine spirit behind our move.”
Entries are still open on the event’s website. Riders have until August 15th to snap up one of the last remaining bibs for this year’s granfondo in mid-September.
Participants have a choice of three different race routes to tackle on the day: the 60km Short Route, the 138km Medium Route and the 151km Long Route that also includes one of Europe’s most gruelling passes, the Mortirolo.
