Part long-distance audax, part multi-day stage race; half cross course, half hill-climb, Rapha notes that the Pennine Rally is a ‘mud-spattered mongrel of a ride’.
Scheduled to take place on June 15-19, Rapha’s brand new event is a self-supported gravel adventure ride along Britain’s mountainous backbone.
The cycling apparel specialist notes that it is ‘already massively oversubscribed’ for the latest edition to its riding calendar. Taking in 500 kilometres over five days, the route runs from Edinburgh to Manchester.
Around 50% of the route is off-road through three UK national parks. Rapha adds that… ‘it’s also an ideal event to give any gravel/off-road gear an incredibly thorough testing.’
‘Only the hardy need apply, and with over 8,000 metres of ascent on the route from Edinburgh to Manchester, you best bring your climbing legs too. But fear not, five days is a long time and there are plenty of pubs along the way providing welcome respite and a well-earned pint.’
The Pennine Rally is a self-supported ride, with participants expected to arrange their own food and accommodation according to their pace and schedule. Rapha will signpost options for accommodation along the route; wild camping is encouraged where legal.
