Active Training World (ATW) has agreed the acquisition of event organiser Nice Tri Events, with the deal effective on Thursday 31st December 2020. The transaction terms were not specified.
The deal includes Grafham Water Triathlon, Kimbolton Half Marathon, all multisport and running events in St Neots (excluding the half marathon) and all multisport and running events at Bedford Autodrome. These events in East England will be organised by Active Training World with immediate effect.
James Shipley at Active Training World said “This is an exciting purchase for ATW. We are delighted to be the new owners of Nice Tri’s events. 2020 has obviously not been the best year for triathlon events but it’s ATW’s 10th anniversary [in 2021] and we’re really looking forward to having these fantastic events in our event portfolio.”
Keith Ritchie of Nice Tri said, “It’s been a fantastic 10 years running NiceTri Events but now is the right time for me to explore new directions. I’m delighted to be handing over the events to James and his experienced team, I know they are in safe hands and will do a great job. I’m excited to see where they take them and look forward to participating in their races!”

Active Training World was established in 2011. It has a national reach in the UK, specialising in running, triathlon, duathlon, aquathon, cycling, swimming and all permutation of swim-bike-run events. The company has a varied portfolio of events from fun runs to marathon, open water swimming to long distance triathlon events.
ATW has organised British Triathlon National Sprint Triathlon Championships for three years running as well as being host to several World and European Triathlon and Duathlon qualifier events over the last three years.
In addition, ATW has its own event entry platform and in-house chip timing team. It provides event services for over 100 events annually including the Brighton Marathon (18,000 competitors), Watford Half Marathon (Gold Graded Event), St Albans Half Marathon (7,500 competitors) and many more.
