TriBourne Multisport Events, organiser of the award-winning Eastbourne Triathlon, notes that the Standard Distance Eastbourne Triathlon has been confirmed as a qualifier for the British Triathlon GB Age-Group Team for the European Championships in 2022.
Meanwhile the Sprint Distance event in Eastbourne in Southern England has been announced as a 2022 World Championships qualifier.
The Eastbourne Triathlon, winner of Event of the Year in both 2017 and 2019 in the Triathlon England Awards, is scheduled to take place on Saturday June 6th in the popular south coast seaside town over predominantly closed roads.
Bringing together athletes from a wide range of abilities and experience, the event sees athletes swimming against the backdrop of the historic Eastbourne pier. The route then takes in roads around the South Downs National Park via Beachy Head on the bike leg and finishes with a run on the seafront promenade.
Race Director, Matthew Dowle, said “We’re really pleased to have been awarded qualifier status for the Eastbourne Triathlon, an accolade that the event certainly deserves. Having been twice awarded Event of the Year in its first four years, it’s a great opportunity to shine a light on this hugely popular event after missing out in 2020 due to the pandemic. All signs point to a really exciting event for this summer.”
2021 events have reportedly been popular – with competition returning this year after a year without racing; and places are now limited for both the Standard and Sprint distances. The weekend of triathlon in Eastbourne also includes events for all the family, with aquathlons for those aged 8 and above, as well as sprint and standard distance relays.
The event sits alongside the wider TriBourne event series, which also includes the Ironbourne long distance triathlons on July 18th and the 255 Triathlon, billed as ‘the world’s longest single day triathlon’ on 8th August.
he series is then completed by the XBourne Cross Triathlon on September 19th and the Eastbourne Duathlon on Sunday October 10th.
